In August of 2007, Neighbors 4 Neighbors of the Heartland set out to increase awareness of homelessness in Kansas City and surrounding areas. Coupled with a program called Skip Lunch for Louie (named after a homeless man who'd been struck by an automobile and killed while riding his bicycle) N4N launched a campaign to aid the homeless and working homeless in our community. Several volunteers distributed lunch sacks and bottled water to homeless people in Kansas City three consecutive evenings while other volunteers, wearing sandwich boards helped to raise awareness and support to benefit Hillcrest Transitional Housing and City Union Mission. These are examples of two of the five boards created.
