When I was a little girl, I collected money for Unicef. I went on to become a Girl Scout so you know what delightful things I sold to benefit our troop. Ymmm.
Years later, I participated in Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure and a few years after that, I walked a half-marathon for the American Stroke Association.
In 104 degree August 2007 temperatures, I stood within the confines of a sandwich board I created at a busy intersection raising awareness about homelessness in our area.
You know those 15 minutes of fame we've heard about? Well a TV newsman interviewed me one of those steamy afternoons & televised it -- to the tune of about 30 seconds of fame. Ah, well. We don't do it for the glory, do we?
One of my sisters is participating in next month's Memory Walk on behalf of the Alzheimers Association.
Our parents raised us to be givers. Between participating in different charity activities, I'm an advocate for several causes. Helping my sisters care for our aging parents in recent years has been very rewarding. I lost my Dad in January 2008 and miss him dearly. My Mom is still going strong & constantly tells her daughters how much she & Dad appreciate(d) our devotion and attention. I remind her that their love & guidance is responsible for our dedication.
Information and important links regarding elder care and other causes near & dear will appear on these pages.
